Record each preservation session as its own batch
A batch is the natural unit for preserved food because it is also the natural unit of a shelf-life question: this specific batch of green beans, canned this specific week, is the thing that needs eating before the next one.
- What was preserved and the method (canned, frozen, dehydrated, fermented, root cellared)
- Quantity and unit (pints, quarts, pounds, bags)
- Date preserved
- Storage location
- Source, if it connects to a harvest or a purchase
